The President of the Basic Court in Pristina, Mrs. Albina Shabani Rama, together with the judges of Juveniles Department, have visited the Correctional and Educational Center for Juveniles in Lipjan. They were welcomed by the acting head of Deputy General Director for Security Mr. Besar Gashi, Director of Legal Department, Mr. Demiri, and Director of the Institution, Mrs. Ardita Blakaj, with her professional team.

During the visit, Mrs. Blakaj informed the President about the institution’s capacity, conditions and activities taking place there. She emphasized the maximum efforts being made for the re-eduaction and re-socialization of juveniles, through engagement in the educational process, rehabilitation programmes and professional trainings.

On the other hand, Mr. Gashi informed the attendees about the challenges faced by the Correctional Service, emphasizing the difficulties in managing prisoners with mental health problems, as well as the initiatives to expand the capacities at the Institute of Forensic Psychiatry in Pristina.

The President Shabani Rama thanked for the hospitality and continued cooperation, by emphasizing the importance of developing activities that contribute on juveniles’ re-socialization. During the meeting there were also discussed indvidual cases of juveniles that are placed on this institution, where the social worker, Mrs. Flaka Ymeri, porovided detailed information for their situation.

Within this framework, the delegation also visited the detainee juvniles, where they had the chance to see the conditions up close and talk to them. The juveniles appreciated the correct behavior of the staff and the conditions offered, expressing no complaints.

To supervise the execution of educational and corrective measures, the President and the judges also visited the Correctional Educational Institution. There, they held discussions with the juveniles, who informed them about the activities offered to them, the professional training and their engagement in various programmes.

At the end of the visit, the team visited the workshops and facilities where the professional training takes place, assessing that the institution has appropriate conditions for the education and resocialization of juveniles.
